BAND DIRECTOR DESCRIPTION

Work with the Vocal Director to be sure that all music matches in regard to arrangement and key.

 Check scores to be sure that they contain all the necessary parts and, write those that are missing.  If your skills do not lie in this area, the Artistic Director and the Program Committee should already be aware of this and their planning should have been adjusted to accommodate this fact.

Work with the Artistic Director and the Vocal Director to determine the timing of the show which will affect the number of verses sung and the arrangement of the music.  Please take care of this before rehearsals begin so that band members are not required to rehearse numbers that are eventually cut.

Determine the instruments needed and the number of members necessary for the band.

 Call band members from previous seasons and recruit any additional members that are required.  Begin this no later than April 1.  Band rehearsals should begin the first week of June. 

 Learn the band scores and be prepared to teach them to the band.

  Attend all rehearsals that require your presence for instrumental instruction/rehearsal and work with the Production Manager when cancellations or additions are deemed necessary.

 Work with the Director, the Choreographer, the Stage Manager, and the Vocal Director to insure that the flow of the show is smooth and continuous.

 You will be directing both the vocal and the band elements of the show for performances.  Work with the Vocal Director so that the shifting of Directors takes place with as little stress and confusion as possible.

 Arrive for performances in time to conduct band warm-ups and to go over any notes you may have from the previous performance.
