CHILDREN'S CHORUS DIRECTOR DESCRIPTION

  POSITION UNAVAILABLE THIS YEAR  

Contact the Children’s Theater, the Reif Dance Program and the school music teachers to develop a list of names of children who have shown an interest in and an aptitude for singing, dancing and plays. 

 Contact parents until double the number of children needed are available for audition as members of the children’s chorus.

 Work with the assistant director and the rehearsal accompanist to develop the rehearsal schedule for the Children’s Chorus.

 Write out a list of expectations/consequences and a schedule to be passed out at the auditions.

 Arrange for audition of children.  The audition sheet should ask for their home room teacher’s name so they can be contacted for input about attention span and ability to follow instructions.  The director and chorus director should assist in the audition process.

 Help the director and choreographer to arrange the numbers chosen for the Children’s Chorus.

 Recruit one or two parents as assistants to accompany children to the restrooms, help them get dressed and be sure they have the props that must be carried on stage.

 Work with the stage director to plan and obtain props.

 Work with the costume director for costumes for the participating children.

 Arrange for an accompanist and conduct a sufficient amount of children’s rehearsals to enable them to learn all songs and movement.  

 Supervise hair, makeup, and the dressing of the children for dress rehearsal and for performances.

 Supervise the placement and retrieval of props during rehearsals and performances.

 Stay with the children until all of them have been picked up from all rehearsals and/or performances.
