CHORAL DIRECTOR DESCRIPTION

POSITION FILLED

     Work with the director to plan the audition schedule and criteria. You along with the Director, the Choreographer, and the Children’s Director (when appropriate) will comprise the audition panel.  Prepare the vocal criteria for auditions, attend auditions, and work with the panel to finalize the cast and those chosen for special numbers/skits.

 Work with the Band Director to be sure that all music matches in regard to arrangement and key.

 Work with the Director and the Band Director to determine the timing of the show which will affect the number of verses sung and the arrangement of the music.  Please take care of this before rehearsals begin so that no one is required to learn numbers or verses that are eventually cut.

 Learn the vocal music and be prepared to teach it to the chorus or to the small groups.

 Attend all rehearsals that require your presence for vocal instruction/rehearsal and work with the Director when cancellations or additions are deemed necessary. 

 Work with the Assistant Director to rehearse the skits.

 Work with the Choreographer to be sure that the dance being designed matches the timing of the music (intro, number of verses, arrangement, measures of instrumental interludes, etc.) and assist to block the numbers that will not require dance.

 Work with the Stage Director and with the Choreographer to determine boat riders and the number of cast members initially needed to remain on land.

 Work with the Director, the Choreographer, the Stage Manager, and the Band Director to insure that the flow of the show is smooth and continuous.

 Assist with the shifting of Directors so that, with as little stress and confusion as possible, the Band Director transitions to directing both the vocal and the band elements of the show during performances.

 Attend all remaining rehearsals and performances to take notes and to help with whatever corrections are necessary.

 Arrive for performances in time to conduct vocal warm-ups and to go over notes from the previous performance.
