DIRECTOR DESCRIPTION POSITION FILLED Prepares the audition process and schedules dates by April 1. Auditions will be held prior to April 30, with special auditions for returning college students and children, if there is a children’s chorus. Communicates the dates to the Board president and jointly develops an audition publicity strategy. Jointly with the board president develops a production budget covering such items as props and sets, piano tuning, music arranging, copying, guest performers, pre-show entertainment costs, etc. Assembles the audition panel. This would normally consist of the choral director and choreographer. Meets with the executive committee of the Showboat Board of Directors monthly beginning in March to keep good communication between the Board and the production team and avoid or solve problems. Sets the rehearsal schedule in conjunction with the assistant director, choral director and band director. The schedule needs to be set by May 1 of each year. Leads all of the directors and is responsible for pulling the production together, and has the authority to make program/production changes as necessary. Blocks all numbers not being choreographed. Conducts rehearsals of all the skits. As leader of the production team: a) Works with the children’s director if children are going to be in the current year’s production. The children’s director will be part of the production committee in those year’s children are in the performance. b) Works with the technical director to develop the design for both lights and sound c) Works with the stage director so they can acquire needed materials to build stage sets and acquire props. Works with the stage director to design set changes and movement of the production to the Reif. d) Works with the costume director to determine costume needs. e) Works with stage director so 2 people are designated to cast off and secure the boat at both docks. f) Works with the Board designee and makes the decision on whether or not to move the production to the Reif Center due to weather conditions. Meets with the production committee anytime there are problems or issues to be dealt with. Has the final authority in resolving these issues, knowing they have the full backing of the board of directors.
