PROGRAM COMMITTEE DIRECTOR DESCRIPTION POSITION FILLED This position is responsible for assembling the program planning committee and is selected solely by the program planning director. He/She may want to include the director, choral director and the choreographer, along with 2 to 4 other members chosen from those who have shown creative talents in working in Showboat or other Community Theater. It’s nice if someone who can arrange and write music is on the committee. The program planning director will submit the names of those selected to the board of directors as soon as the slate of members is completed. The sole responsibility of this committee is to write the show. (This includes selection of choral and band numbers plus the writing of all dialogue, including that of the captain.) The meetings of the program planning committee will begin no later than October 1. The show should be completely written by the end of February each year. As soon as a show theme is selected, this information should be passed on the president of the board so that it can be added to our marketing plan. The program planning director will submit a progress report to the Showboat board in January and meet with the executive committee of the board of directors as soon as the show is complete. At this time, they will receive a copy of the show format. We do have problems with finding choral and band music that are the same. That may influence some of the program numbers we can use. If there is no one on the planning committee that can arrange music, please advise the board and develop a budget and identify people who can arrange the music. As soon as the show is completed, the program planning director will meet with the director, band director, choral director, and the costume director to transition the show from planning to production. The Showboat executive committee should be invited to this meeting. The program planning committee will decide if there will be any pre-show entertainment, and arrange for the same. This committee will also arrange for guest performers. The information must be communicated to the Showboat executive board for inclusion in written publicity. This should be done by May 1. All dialogue must be written by June 10th. It is hoped the program planning committee can come to agreement about numbers and skits in the show, but in cases of disagreement, the program planning director will have the final decision.
